Generic top-level domains (gTLDs)

The .INFO domain was the world's first unrestricted top-level domain to be launched since .com. It was launched in 2001 by Afilias and pioneered the deployment of large scale EPP-based domain name registries as well as reducing resolution time to under 5 minutes. Today the .INFO domain supports over 5 million domains and millions of live sites and is available in many Internationalize Domain Name (IDN) scripts.

Afilias transitioned .ORG onto its systems in 2003, under contract to the Public Interest Registry, the new appointed registry operator for .ORG. Afilias completed a smooth and successfully migration of over 2.7 million domains - the first gTLD registry migration in history. Afilias upgraded the technology available for .ORG including migrating to an EPP registry, the migration available through many Internationalize Domain Name (IDN) scripts and helped PIR grow it to now support over 6 million domains.
